Fun Q & A with our Spotlight Dad:

Personal:

What phrase or motto do you live by?

Be kind to everyone you meet. Take care of each other.

Inspiration:

"Doubt that the sun doth move, doubt truth to be a liar, but never doubt I love." - "Hamlet", Act 2, Scene 2

If you could teach your kids one thing and have it impact them, what would it be?

To treat others the way you'd want to be treated.

How do you measure success?

Well, I am a teacher, so it isn't through money. I think as long as we can pay our bills, we have a home to live in, food on the table, clothes on our backs, and love in our hearts........we are successful.

Greatest Accomplishment:

I overcame some of the toughest times in my life over 15 years ago and went back to school at night for 4 years while working full time. I graduated with my Master's in Education and a year later was awarded New Teacher of the Year in Special Education for Clark County School District and Alumni of the 1990's from the Department of Special Education at UNLV.

Proudest Moment:

Seeing my wife walk down the isle on the day we were married. And of course, the day my son was born.

Biggest Challenge:

At my age, getting back into shape so that I can keep up with my son as he gets older and more active.

Sport/Exercise Program:

24 Hour Fitness here I come!

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I was friends with Bruce Willis when we both attended Monclair State University back in the 70's. I performed in about 3 or 4 plays with him and directed him in a production of "Of Mice and Men".

Where did you grow up:

Iselin, New Jersey. I went to St Cecilia's Elementary School in Iselin, NJ and St. Peter's High School in New Brunswick NJ.

How many siblings:

2 brothers (one older, one younger) and an older sister.

First Job:

I sold lemon ice in the park. I was 16 years old. My father got me the job. I still remember when he told me as he dropped me off for my first day....."Don't ever stand around doing nothing. Find something to do."

Childhood Ambition:

I wanted to win an Academy Award for Best Actor.

Favorites:

Favorite Local Restaurant:

Don Antonio's Pizzaria

Favorite Coffee Spot:

Starbucks. I met my wife at Starbucks.

Favorite Soundtrack/song:

Way too many to pick a favorite. But, I like Billy Joel, Elton John, Sinatra, Josh Grobin......and the list goes on.

Favorite Movie:

The Last Samurai, Braveheart, Billy Elliot.....and many more.

Favorite TV Show:

Boston Legal

Retreat:

My brother's wrap-around porch at his house on top of a mountain in Branson, Missouri.

Last Book You Read:

"Love You Forever" by Robert Munsch. I read it to my son.

Indulgence:

An iced cold Rockstar or an Iced Coffee. A food indulgence would be a plain cheese pizza from Villa Pizza.

Tell us about a product or item that you can't live without as a parent

Well, we are only 3 weeks into being first time parents, so I'd have to say, lots of diapers, the breast pump, and our microwave sterilizer. And of course.....our washing machine!

Your Perfect Day:

My perfect day is simply being at home with my wife, Abby and our little boy, Christopher. Of course, in the evening, a pizza and a movie is a great way to end a day.

Other:

What inspires you to go to work every day?

I used to have many reasons, but lately, with the economy and unemployment the way it is, I am just very thankful that I have a job to go to each day. But, other than that......I would have to say that I am inspired to go to work because I love what I do and I have fun doing it.

[Teachers] Why did you go into education?

There are so many children (especially in special education) that people have given up on. These students have very often given up on themselves. I wanted to show my students that they can succeed in anything they do. All they need is someone that believes in them.

[Teachers] What is it that motivates you most each day working with students?

If one of my students can accomplish one little thing they could not do the day before.....it is a great day!

[Teachers] What message is important to you to pass on to your students?

Never, never, never give up!
